Epic Ventoux
Welcome to Mont Ventoux for this Epic adventure on Provence’s highest mountain: a bucket-list climb for cyclists around the world. Climbed many times in the Tour de France – where champions were crowned and some dethroned – Mont Ventoux is synonymous with cycling. Our exciting Ventoux adventure offers you three days of cycling on, and around, our favorite mountain, with no less than ten different itineraries.
Choose from several levels of accommodation: Luxury at the 5* Crillon le Brave hotel, Charming at the 4* Château de Mazan, and Cosy at the 2/3* La Garance in Bedoin.
It’s a holiday perfect for cyclists seeking challenge, and in good shape. You’ll explore breathtaking gorges, and villages off the beaten-track. The most ambitious riders can try and be part of the “Cinglés du Ventoux” club: completing the three different ascents of Ventoux in a single day.
10 itineraries are available:
Example of Day 1: Climbing Mont Ventoux
Distance : 79 km
Climbing: +2158 m
Climb Mont Ventoux by its famed south face, the one most used in the Tour de France. While the first few kilometers are rather tame, through the vines and cherry orchards, you then enter the forest and the slopes become steep. Reaching the Chalet Reynard, you enter Ventoux’s famed moonscape, aiming for the giant tower that marks the summit. Freewheel for 22km down to the village of Malaucène, during with the chain of the Alps visible to the north. Reach your hotel via the Dentelles de Montmirail chain, a set of vertical limestone cliffs that soar above the vines.
Example of Day 2: Tour du Mont Ventoux
Distance: 115 km
Climbing: +1686m
This scenic ride takes you behind the mountain, through the remote Toulourenc Valley, Ventoux’s only river. The sheer north face of Ventoux acts as a backdrop as you climb to the village of Brantes, just a handful of homes perched high above the valley, and staring defiantly at the mountain. You’ll also experience the Nesque Gorge, a beautifully paved canyon road that snakes its way down to the valley, cutting through tunnels carved into the limestone cliffs.
Example of Day 3: Following the Tour de France 2016
Distance: 60 km
Dénivelé: +1100 m
This itinerary heads southbound from Ventoux, exploring the Monts du Vaucluse range and the magnificent hilltop villages of the Luberon. Riden in the Tour de France 2016, this undulating ride takes you to the village of Fontaine de Vaucluse, where emerald waters crash out of a mysterious spring. You’ll also visit the village of Gordes, recently named by Travel and Leisure magazine as the world’s most beautiful village.
